Educational Visits to Fairytale Farm

If you wish to make an educational trip booking, please call our Reception Team on 01608 238014 or via email: schools@fairytalefarm.co.uk.

Education visits all year round!

School visit to Fairytale Farm

Join the increasing number of schools visiting us by organising your next school visit to Fairytale Farm.

We offer an exciting and informative day for children. Our attractions are largely outdoors, supporting the value of outdoor experiences for children's learning and development.

As our name suggests there is a fairytale theme throughout the farm so not only can children meet, feed and handle our animals, encounter the countryside and learn about everything from habitats and animal characteristics to mothers and babies, they can explore our fairytale-themed setting. Most of our attractions are interactive and informative and most link in with literacy, maths, science and topic work for EYFS and KS1, as well as being fun!  We are happy to collaborate with teachers to provide topic worksheets, workshops, talks and Q&A sessions.

Our attractions include:

  • A wide range of farm animals, some of which can be fed by the children;
  • Smaller domestic animals to handle;
  • Indoor Mouse Town;
  • Sand Pit;
  • The Enchanted Walk, encompassing fairytale displays, which include Little Red Riding Hood and Goldilocks and the Three Bears, many of which have buttons which activate sensory experiences;
  • Water Play;
  • Activity Panels;
  • A Sensory Garden;
  • and much more besides.

Our farm animals include alpacas, rabbits, ponies, pigs, goats, donkeys, rheas and an assortment of farm birds. We also have play and picnic areas, a cafe which is open every day and a small shop.

Structured or free-form visits - your choice!

Schools

We offer two different options for school visits: either a structured tour programme (if arranged in advance) or a free-form day. These visits are available most days with prior notice.

If you choose the free-form visit, animal petting is included at the stated times on our 'What's on Today' notice in our admissions area. Alternatively, with a  structured tour the animal petting is incorporated into the agreed programme and will be exclusive to your group.

We also run seasonal school visits such as our Christmas Fairytale event, which includes a visit to Father Christmas and a present for every child.

Whatever your educational requirements, our Education Team is here to work with your school or group to deliver a fun, exciting and interactive learning experience, with some fresh air and exercise thrown in.

We advise you to make a pre-visit inspection. Please let our Reception Team know and they will be delighted to provide you with a pre-visit pass for this.

Get ready for the Fairytale Baddies and Spooks!

Fairytale Farm's Halloween Event 2017Our family-friendly Halloween event is almost upon us and this year it will be a distinctly fairytale-themed event. But all of the nice fairytale characters have been banished away, leaving only the fairytale baddies. Designed with young children in mind, the event runs every day from Saturday 21st to Sunday 29th October, with free games and activities for all the family.

This year, we have free pumpkin carving (one per child), spooky biscuit decorating and an opportunity to get creative in our colouring corner by entering the on-site competition. If visitors come dressed up for the occasion they will receive a free treat, and when darkness falls at weekends, visitors will be able to enjoy our famous illuminations for no extra charge. We also have face painters on hand every day to turn your child into their favourite Halloween spook for a small charge.

We will also be running a spooky photo competition, where we encourage visitors in fancy dress to photograph themselves in a spooky location at Fairytale Farm and post it on Facebook. The most spooktacular photo will win a prize.

And we have a special late night Halloween event on on Saturday 28th October, where we combine the excitement of our illuminated gardens with Halloween activities to create a truly memorable evening out. Visitors arriving after 5pm can take advantage of our special ‘Illuminations and Supper’ all-in farm admission and food package and will be able to join in with the extra Halloween activities, as well seeing the farm and having a stroll through the illuminated Enchanted Walk. Special evening activities will include a workshop where children can make their own potions and spells ready to cast on All Hallows Eve, and a spooky story corner. (Note that those who have paid the full admission price earlier in the day can stay on and see the illuminations free of charge, and all the hot food can be purchased individually from our Beanstalk Cafe). Bookings now being taken to visit Santa

We are now taking bookings for our magical Christmas Fairytale event, where you can meet Santa in his indoor fairytale grotto.

As well as seeing Santa and receiving a present, children can join in with various Christmas activities, enjoy all the usual Fairytale Farm attractions and see our enchanting Christmas lights, which are bigger and better for 2017. Christmas activities include Christmas cookie decorating and a festive-themed hunt. And children who visit before Christmas Eve will get a chance to write to Father Christmas with their wish list and post it in our special SantaMail post box. We have some really unusual Christmas-themed treats in our Beanstalk Cafe. Oh yes, and every parent gets mulled wine and a home-made mince pie.

Grotto tickets are £5.50 (you only pay for the children receiving a present), plus normal farm admission price. Our event is on Saturdays and Sundays from 2nd December to 17th December and daily 20th to 24th December.

Due to the popularity of this event in previous years, we have decided to take online bookings only this year, to ensure that every visitor gets a completely magical experience. You can pre-book tickets now. Click here to book.

Illuminations are coming - discount packages available!

Photo of the Fairytale Farm illuminations 2017

Don't miss our Illuminations on Saturdays and Sundays from 14th October to 17th December, and every day from 20th December to 24th December.

The Farm will be open all day as normal, but when daylight fades the entire Enchanted Walk will become a magical wonderland of fairy lights, which will delight children and adults. The Mermaid Garden, Giant's Camera, The Extinct Band, Giant Party Poppers, and Light Fountains will be a blaze of colour and the Hex Water Fountain will be lit in ever-changing colours. We also have new and updated features that were not part of last year's line-up, and our Fairytale Street will be illuminated.

'Illuminations and Supper' packages...

We will be opening the Farm until late on 14th, 15th, 21st, 22nd and 28th October to celebrate the switch-on of the Illuminations, when we will stay open until two hours after dusk. On these special event nights we will be offering an all-in farm admission and food package. Our 'Illuminations and Supper' package is available from 5pm for £6.00 per person. This price gives evening entry to the Farm (with a chance to see the animals if you arrive promptly at 5pm), a soup with crusty bread or hot dog plus a hot or cold drink, and finish the evening with a stroll through the illuminated gardens after the lights switch on. A truly magical evening for the whole family. You can buy these in advance here for only £5.49 (a saving of 51p per person from this already discounted price). Note that the animal area and playground closes at dusk so please arrive as soon after 5pm as you can if you want to see these parts of the park before the illuminations switch on.
