Alien Alert: Fairytale Farm's third Sci-Fi Weekend ready for blast off

Aliens at Fairytale Farm

Aliens will be invading Fairytale Farm once again for our third charity Sci-Fi Weekend. If you visit the Farm on Saturday or Sunday 13th or 14th August, you will find it has been taken over by aliens from TV and the movies, but even the baddies are friendly!

The Farm will have a sci-fi theme throughout the weekend, with costumed creatures roaming the different zones, and your opportunity to be photographed with many famous sci-fi characters. We will be fundraising for Let's Play Banbury, which specialises in the provision of play and leisure opportunities for disabled young people aged 5 – 18 years ol, so please come along and give generously in the collection boxes

The weekend proved very popular in 2014 and 2015, and many of our visitors decided to dress up as well. This year, anybody dressing up as a sci-fi character will get 20% off the admission price, so get creative!

See photographs of last year's event here.

Rare breed woolly pigs arrive at Fairytale Farm

New pigs

Fairytale Farm has welcomed its newest and most unusual arrival: three rare breed woolly pigs.

Owner Nick Laister comments: "Our three new girls are already a favourite with our staff because they are so gorgeous. With thick, woolly coats and huge floppy ears, you might be forgiven for thinking that they are sheep from a distance. But they are in fact a very rare breed of pig called Mangalitsa! They have got to be the most attractive breed of pig in the world and I think our visitors are going to fall in love with them as quickly as our staff."

Mangalitsa pigs are a very rare Hungarian breed that are unusual because they grow a thick, woolly coat similar to that of a sheep.

Nick continues: "As recently as 1993, the Mangalitsa breed was threatened with extinction, with the total worldwide population down to less than 150 sows. Thanks to a small group of dedicated breeders in Hungary, the Mangalitsa was brought back from the verge of extinction and there are now 7 female lines in the UK. We are therefore very proud to have these three beautiful girls at Fairytale Farm and we are sure that our visitors will love meeting them as they walk around our expanding animal area."

The pigs can now be seen at the Farm, which is open every day until 30th October.

Picnic time for teddy bears

Teddy Bears at Fairytale Farm

It is picnic time for teddy bears again at Fairytale Farm this May Bank Holiday Monday (2nd May 2016) as we once again hold our popular Teddy Bears Picnic event.

Every child who brings a teddy bear to Fairytale Farm will receive a £1 gift voucher on entry that can be spent on anything at the Farm.

The highlight of the day will undoubtedly be the picnic itself, which will be held at 1pm. Anybody can join in with the picnic, but any child who has brought along a teddy can buy a special discounted lunch box to share with their teddy bear at the picnic - or you can just bring along your own picnic.

Fairytale Farm's own storytelling teddy bear (pictured, right) will be joining in at the picnic and will entertain the children with a short story about a bear who receives the perfect gift.

We will also be holding a Best Dressed Teddy Bear competition, which will be judged by the storytelling teddy bear during the picnic.

All the other usual Fairytale Farm activities will be taking place - and your teddy bear can join in!

There is no extra charge for the event and discount tickets are available online:
